Weather Resistant Door Handles & Closures
External Timber Doors
You would usually find either a Sash lock (Deadbolt & lever in one lock) or a night latch with a Deadlock fitted further down the door. Generally, if they are fitted correctly only 1 lock on the door needs to meet the criteria.
Internal Timber Doors
These can also be fitted with either of the above set-ups however they would usually require ‘keyless escape’ therefore a non-deadlocking night latch or deadbolt operated by a Ti on the internal side and key on the external side.
UPVC Doors
These are required to have a multipoint locking system with a minimum of 3 locking points. You will need to check your insurance policy as to whether BS Cylinders are required.
Aluminium Doors
Depending on the age and application of the door these can be fitted with several different locks. Domestically they will usually have a cylinder operated Sash lock, the bolts tend to be shorter than most other deadlocks, so a good secure B.S. Cylinder is more necessary/important.
Windows
The general rule for windows is that any accessible windows (i.e., all ground floor, a flat roof or low roof giving access to said windows) are secured with a lock operated by a key.
